Smith wins as Marquez claims title
Marc Marquez clinched the 125cc title with a careful fourth place at Valencia, as Bradley Smith finally took his first win of 2010 in his final race in the category. Needing only an eighth place to put the title beyond rival Nico Terol's reach, Ajo Derbi rider Marquez sat in third behind Aspar team-mates Smith and Terol for most of the race, after a first-lap shuffle that saw Terol lead for a few metres before running wide and letting Smith escape. Marquez occasionally got alongside Terol to show that he was faster, but preferred not to make a move, and when erstwhile title contender Pol Espargaro (Tuenti Derbi) appeared on their tails on a recovery charge having fallen to 11th at the start, Marquez soon let him through.
