De la Rosa: Funding tougher than ever

Pedro de la Rosa says the situation for drivers without personal sponsorship trying to get into the Formula 1 field is tougher than he has ever known, as he continues to chase drives for 2011. The Spaniard is currently working as a Pirelli test driver, having lost his Sauber seat following the Italian Grand Prix, but is keen to get back on the grid next year. "What I know for sure is that if I had money I would 100 per cent be able to be racing," de la Rosa told AUTOSPORT

Harvick insists penalty was unjust

Kevin Harvick remained adamant that the pitlane speeding penalty he received at a crucial time during Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup decider at Homestead was undeserved. The Richard Childress driver grabbed the lead of the race during the seventh caution of the day, following an impressive stop after he had entered pit road in second place behind Michael Waltrip Racing's Martin Truex Jr.

Report: NHTSA reviewing Honda Accord Hybrid sudden acceleration claim

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has launched a preliminary investigation in to mid-2000s Honda Accord and Civic hybrid models after receiving a complaint that originated from a fatal crash in July of 2005. In this instance, the driver of a 2005 Accord Hybrid said that she was driving over rumble strips on the side of a highway, and when she tried to apply the brakes, the car sped up and caused her to cross into oncoming traffic. NHTSA reports that the resulting accident caused the Accord's passenger to die, while the driver sustained disabling injuries.

It's no surprise that NHTSA is being particularly careful these days when receiving complaints citing unintended or sudden acceleration, especially after the series of Toyota recall fiascoes earlier this year. Using NHTSA's crash database, the Accord driver found 22 other incidents similar to hers, all of which involved Honda Accord and Civic hybrids. NHTSA plans to further research this individual complaint before starting an official investigation into these Honda vehicles. Hat tip to Frank W!

Mortara dominates qualifying race

Edoardo Mortara took a dominant victory in the qualification race for the Macau Grand Prix - putting him on course for an historic double in the event. The Signature driver did not make the best of getaways from the grid, losing the lead to fast-starting team-mate Daniel Abt on the run through Mandarin, but he was back in front by the time they got into Lisboa. While there was chaos behind the leaders, as James Calado and Alexander Sims crashed spectacularly on the exit of Mandarin, Mortara kept his head down and built up a comfortable lead.
